We hope you had an enjoyable break and a happy Easter! Welcome back!
This term is 10 weeks duration, and now we know where your child 'sits' in their learning, we will be forging ahead with their specific learning goals. The students have set their own learning goals on their blogs. Please revisit these with them to remind them of their goals.

Students should be in full winter uniform for term 2. We will have cross-country training each week, so girls would be best to have their PE shorts for this.

Well done to the children who have kept up with their LEXIA work over the holidays-it does all pay off!
Well done to all students who read lots over the break...that really helps with fluency, self discipline, personal enjoyment and text understanding!

Mr Bach and Mrs Hall both attended a workshop day on LITERACY in the holidays and we look forward to using some of the relevant information with our classes.

A HUGE THANKS FROM THE THE FLOOD VICTIMS OF WHAKATANE AND MATATA!
THE FINAL AMOUNT RAISED WAS...$688! HERE IS A NOTE FROM THE PRINCIPAL OF MATATA:

Kia ora Bernie,

Two whanau are still in temporary accommodation provided by Te Wananga o Awanuiarangi. One whanau is able to move back into their home, once the carpet, roofing, windows have being repaired. This will take up to a month. Our second whanau is not so fortunate. They have lost everything and unfortunately they were not insured. Mum is understandably  very distressed, however, our wonderful support team (local parish, Srs Margaret and Margaret-Mary, St Vinnies and our wider  Diocesan Schools) are helping lighten her burden. I have compiled a full household list of needs and will be meeting with our team tomorrow. The most pressing need is finding permanent residence.

Thank you for your quick response to our whanau needs. I have shared all of this and the aroha sent from throughout our beautiful school communities, with both families and it has really moved them deeply.

nga mihi
On Monday we have an ANZAC liturgy at 10:00 and on Tuesday a Resurrection liturgy at 10:00.

HOMEWORK:
Spelling will be on the blog under HOMEWORK this term. Your child will be in a group and the words for 2 weeks learning will be up. This will eliminate the need to remember notebooks each day. We will use the notebooks at school for buddy practice.

WEEKS 1 & 2 SPELLING-a link here but also on homework label :-)

WRITING BOOK WORK:
We have decided to make Mondays 'Book Days' when we use only our exercise books on this day to plan our writing/reading tasks. Two reasons; to incorporate and develop better handwriting skills and also so children earn time for chrome book tasks and activities. A certain amount of book work will need to be completed on Monday to ensure that the student is ready to continue in digital form.
I hope that makes sense!!!!

TERMS FOCUS:
This term our Concept is SUSTAINABILITY and we will be looking at water as our focus. We have lots of science activities and a science trip organised and it will be a fun focus.
Our RE this term; we will be starting with the Prayer strand and moving into the God strand and then Jesus Strand.
This term each class member will be asked to take home the class prayer journal. This is to go home for a couple of nights and the idea is that each family will record a prayer, reflection, or poem in the book. It may be on any theme-example for health, for family members, for safe travels, for children, for those in need, for the Religious order, for parents, for thanks, for hope, for animals etc.....this way we will build up a class collection of prayers that we can read at prayer times. Feel free to decorate the page appropriately also!
Reading and Writing will be related to our Concept most of the time. We still require students to take a reading book home each night or a couple of journal books a week. Maths Whizz at home and spelling practice (on the blog.)
Maths will continue on Number and we will be looking at the other strands as well.

MONDAY: ANZAC LITURGY AT 10:00AM IN THE HALL.
TUESDAY: RESURRECTION LITURGY AT 10:00AM THE HALL
WEDNESDAY: SINGING PRACTICE AT 8:45 SHARP
THURSDAY: KAPA HAKA.....MANDARIN LANGUAGE
FRIDAY: GOLDEN TIME....MINI MARATHON FOR THOSE SIGNED UP.

Ruma Weta would like to thank you all for a fantastic term 1!!

Your child is a delight and we see the individuality in each child. It is a true blessing and a privilege to teach your child. Have a fabulous Easter!

Well done middle school students on leading a great Stations of the Cross Liturgy. You were fantastic!! Everyone sung so well also!!

We have had a very busy week. Thanks to Mrs Hall and the teachers who have been helping with the liturgies we have had this week. They have all been very good, but I am sure the highlight was the Palm Sunday procession with the donkey.

This week is Holy week, the most important week on the Catholic calendar, leading up to Easter. On Thursday 13th April we have the Washing of the Feet Liturgy in the Hall at 10am.
HOLY WEEK -CLICK TO FIND OUT MORE

Reading Logs for the Holiday Reading Programme are to be issued to the children on Wednesday. Children will be issued with a pack and in the pack will be the Town Library Log which carries on through the year and our Holiday Log. When children take their completed Town Library logs back to the library they may get a spot prize. Children will be issued with another log each time they drop off their completed one. We will get back the logs our children hand in, so we then can have a lucky draw at the end of the term for a major prize. Please help us by encouraging children to use the town library, particularly when ours is not up and running at the moment.

We have three way conferences (children, teacher and caregiver) on Monday and Tuesday after school from 3:15pm. All children are expected to take part in a conference. Please book in your time for a conference. The instructions for booking are in the last newsletter or on the main school website.. 3 way conferences are after school on Monday and Tuesday Please make a booking here. Our code is 7zb55

On Thursday 13th April we have the Washing of the Feet Liturgy in the Hall at 10am.

Mufti Day Wednesday 5th April

On Wednesday we had a mufti day at St Mary's to raise money for our Caritas focus of the year, which is Tonga. We have been talking about the difficulties poor people have in Tonga, especially with finding fresh water for cooking and drinking. Hopefully the money we raised will help.
